REVIEW OSCHERSLEBEN FIA GT, 21-6-2009

#21 Dimitris Deverikos (#19 Mühlner Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S)

“I think Porsche has a lot of potential here in Adria and I will try to do the best job I can to get a good result. This is the first time I’ve driven with Jamomir Jirik but I’m sure we’ll do well together. Sean Edwards had a good result at Silverstone, setting the fastest lap and it makes me optimistic for this weekend. This will be the first time I’ve taken part in a night race and it will be a good experience for me. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to take part in the next two rounds in Germany and Portugal and if I’m in front then I will make a decision.”
Dimitris will Joins Muehlner motorsport for the second rounds of the FIA GT3 EUROPEAN CHAMPIOSHIPS at Adria, last weekend make strong debut in the official GERMAN GT3 CHAMPIONSHIPS in Assen with same team and finish P7 with his Teammate Jurgen Haring

2nd Position for Dimitris Deverikos at FIA GT3 in Monza.

Dimitris Deverikos took part in the second race of this year’s European Championship GT3 which was held last weekend in Monza. The Greek driver continues to be part of the Tech 9 Motorsport team which contests this year with a Lamborghini Gallardo (instead of a Porsche), a car that Dimitris finds “enjoyable” and that can definitely offer greater excitements and scores as it is in the first six contestants, even though it’s a long way off Ford GT’s performances. Deverikos competed with the 20-year-old German Christopher Haase, who is racing, at the same time, in the German Championship ADAC GT.

The first race started with a damp track and the crew of the Tech 9 started with slick tyres. The tough conditions started to loom as there were a lot of withdrawals at the reconnaissance round. At the 25th minute a crash of three cars at the chicane Ascari exit imposed the entry of the safety car at the race track.

The team of Tech 9 was fully prepared for the incident and called the car to the pits to change tyres and therefore they saved precious time. The Lamborghini Gallardo was performing amazingly on the wet and managed to bring Dimitri Deveriko and Christopher Haase at the third position, even under the pressure of Peyroles/Ruffier (Corvette), who got to the finish line just a tenth of the second after the black Gallardo. However, the judges of the race concluded that the Corvette of Charpilienne/Sound, which finished at the second position, had to be disqualified from the last score as it used a set of tyres which were intended for the second race. This brought Deverikos/Haase at the second position!

On Sunday, in the second race, the crew of Tech 9 wasn’t so lucky as in the first, as 20 minutes before the check flag and while Deverikos was at the tenth position, the electronics of the gear box let him down and made him quit.

Dimitris Deverikos is expected to take part in the third round of this year’s season of the European Championship FIA GT3, which will be held on July the 6th in Oschersleben of Germany.

FIA GT – PREVIEW OSCHERSLEBEN FIA GT ProSpeed Competition

FIA GT – PREVIEW OSCHERSLEBEN FIA GT ProSpeed Competition defending a double leadership position in FIA GT GRÂCE-HOLLOGNE, 17/06/2009. Following Prospeed Competition’s victory in the second race of the FIA GT in Adria, the Oschersleben circuit is now the following venue on the FIA GT and FIA GT3 calendar. In Germany ProSpeed Competition will be defending Manu Collard and Richard Westbrook leaders’ position with the drivers and on top of that also that of the team in the battle for the team title. On the GT3 front the team are looking to clinch a first podium place. ProSpeed Competition will be welcoming two new faces in Oschersleben, namely the Brit Sean Edwards in the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR teamed up with Marco Holzer (GT2) and the Greek Dimitris Deverikos in the Porsche 911 Cup S, which he shares with Niki Lanik (GT3).

Following his debut at Le Mans last weekend Darryl O’Young will not be amongst them. “That’s right”, Rudi Penders started off the conversation looking ahead to the German round of the FIA GT-championship. “Darryl is active in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and as from Spa will be back amongst us. In fact he’s being replaced by Sean Edwards here. Sean is a young 22 year old Brit who won the first FIA GT3 title back in 2006 with Porsche and who competed in the 2007 FIA GT2 championship with a Porsche, with a third place in GT2 during the 24 Hours of Spa as his best result. In fact he will be competing for us in the 24 Hours of Spa and Oschersleben is therefore the perfect way in which to integrate him into the team and get to know some of our run of the mill procedures. In Oscherleben Marco and Sean are going flat out for a podium. It soon became apparent in Adria that our ‘second’ car had enormous potential, and can definitely improve on that fourth place clinched in Adria On top of that every point scored in the battle for the team title is welcomed with open arms.”

“Who knows, we might have to give our team mates a boost”, Manu Collard laughed, having just won in Le Mans with Porsche in LMP2. “For Oschersleben we have no less than 90 kilo ballast (40 kilo as success ballast and 50 kilo ‘fixed ballast’ for the entire season as a result of the driver pairing). Tough going, especially as in the first instance these ninety kilo are an enormous handicap in qualifying, resulting in achieving a far less favourable spot on the starting grid. The outcome is that we’ll be enjoying a catch-up race, which is not ideal in Oschersleben. This German circuit is not designed for overtaking. But last but not least trying to go into the attack with a heavy car is not obvious. A good start, a perfect strategy and a bit of luck will be of vital importance for us.”

In FIA GT3 the Greek Dimitris Deverikos will be heading up the Belgian team. In the past Deverikos has claimed a few podium places with Porsche in FIA GT3 and will be out on the prowl with Niki Lanik to win a first podium place for ProSpeed Competition in FIA GT3. Marc Maton (Team manager ProSpeed FIA GT3): “Above all we’ll need to find a perfect set-up and be fast during the qualifying sessions, as Oschersleben is not a circuit where you can count on working your way up through the pack, especially not in GT3. But I do have this feeling that our two drivers are well matched and that we’ll be pretty competitive.”

FIA GT3, Monza 19-05-08

Tech 9 Motors Port

Μετά το Βρετανικό ήρθε η ώρα να κατακτήσει και το Ευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα ο Δεβερίκος;

Race 2 Report, Oschersleben 2006

Dimitris Deverikos, nr 9 Tech9 Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3

Yesterday I had a crash with the Ferrari of Hector Lester (Ferrari JMB Racing), so today I still have some problems with my tyres. I lost 10 seconds in the pit-lane. I would have finished 8th if I hadn’t made that mistake…

Race Report, Silverstone 2006

First Race Report

Most of the GT3 teams had their first experience of wet running during the exciting inaugural race in the FIA GT3 European Championship. The Dodge Viper Competition Coupe cars dominated the beginning of the race, with Duqueine ahead of Zonca and Ceccato, but after the driver change, when the track started to dry, everything was different. With slick tyres, nr34 JMB Ferrari 430 Challenge, nr9 Tech9 Mortorsport Porsche 997 Cup and nr45 Ascari KZ1R put in an incredible end to the race, taking the chequered flag in this order. Therefore, JMB Racing Ferrari’s Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester became the first winners in the history of the FIA GT3 European Championship.

FERRARI OPEN THE WINNER’S LIST

When the rain falls, the British drivers appear to be in their element! Team-mates last year in the British GT Championship, Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester started the season very well by winning the opening race of the FIA GT3 European Championship. However, the race had not got off to a perfect start for the nr34 JMB Racing Ferrari 430 Challenge GT3, when Lester, in second position, spun after a misunderstood with Tech 9 Porsche driven by Deverikos. However, JMB Racing chose the perfect strategy when they decided to put slick tyres on, during the obligatory driver change. “The team made the best decision, with slick tyres we were much faster than the others, and it was fun to overtake three or four cars per lap” declared Simonsen, very happy with this first victory. “This Championship is fantastic, with more than 40 cars on the grid, it is incredible. We started it by the best way, but tomorrow is another day…”

TECH 9 MOTOSPORT’S EDWARDS AND DEVERIKOS FIRST OF THE PORSCHE CARS

The nr 9 Tech 9 Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3 Cup had a nearly identical race to that of the winning Ferrari. 2005 British GT3 Champion, Dimitris Deveretikos took a good start from the third row, but he spun when he tried to overtake Lester. He dropped to seventh position, then pushed very hard to come back up to third before the drivers change.
Back on track with slick tyres, his team-mate, Sean Edwards was ten seconds a lap faster than the leading Viper. Twelve minutes before the end of the race, Edwards took the lead, but could not do anything when Simonsen overtook him. “We didn’t expect to finish in this position, so it is a great start for us. The race was great, we started the Championship well with this second position, and as winners of the Porsche category” declared Sean Edwards.

INCREDIBLE FINISH FOR NR 45 DAMAX ASCARI

Starting from the pit lane, with slick tyres on a wet track… the beginning of the race was quite difficult for Aaron Scott. But after the driver change, former British Formula 3 Driver, Ben Collins, put on a real show! In thirteenth position, fifteen minutes before the chequered flag, the Ascari driver climbed up to third position during the last lap. “I have a lot of fun! Our car was brilliant under those conditions, Damax did a fantastic job and the potential of the car is really interesting” said Ben Colins.

THE RACE

As it is said in the sporting regulations, the faster driver of each car after the second qualifying sessions must start the second race and the slower driver must start the first race. So Klaus Ludwig, who had set pole position for the first race, left the nr16 Team Carsport Callaway Corvette Z06 GT3 in the hands of his team-mate Uli Berberich-Martini, ahead of nr34 JMB Racing Ferrari 430 Challenge GT3 driven by Hector Lester.
From the second row, the nr 23 BMS Scuderia Italia Aston Martin DBRS9, driven by Massimiliano Mugelli, took the lead, in front of Lester and Deverikos, but both drivers spun during the first lap. So, Gilles Duqueine, in the nr 29 Pourchelon Racing Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, was second at the end of lap one, with the Frenchman taking the lead during the third lap. The paraplegic driver then raised the rhythm and pulled out a gap. Behind him, a fierce battle started for the second position; with Mugelli (Aston Martin DBRS9) pursued by two Vipers driven by Zonca and Ceccato. After fifteen minutes, the Vipers overtook the Aston Martin, while the nr 9 Tech 9 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, driven by Deverikos, closed on the leaders. Zonca was the first to come to the pits to change driver.
A few cars decided to change rain tyres for slicks during the stops. The nr29 Pouchelon Racing Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, now in the hands of Anthony Reid, was still leading the race, threatened by the nr26 Viper driven by Marco Cioci, but with slicks tyres, Sean Edwards and Allan Simonsen were nearly 10 seconds faster per lap. They overtook several cars, and quickly caught up with the leaders, passing them 12 minutes before the end of the race.
Allan Simonsen (nr34 JMB Racing Ferrari 430 Challenge GT3) overtook Sean Edwards (nr9 Tech 9 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup), and they crossed the finish line in the same order.

The last lap was critical. Cioci tried at any price to overtake Anthony Reid in order to finish third and first of the Vipers. Both cars, still on rain tyres, were very hard to drive; some contact occurred, and Cioci overtook Reid, but Ben Collins, after an impressive recovery, surprised them and passed them before the finish line.
In the end, Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester on nr34 JMB Racing Ferrari 430 Challenge GT3 won the opening race of the season, ahead of nr9 Tech 9 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and nr45 Damax Ascari KZ1R. The first Viper, nr26 Racing box, was 4th, and the first Aston Martin, the nr66 of Martin Rich and Piers Jonson was 8th. Juergen Von Gartzen and Marius Ritskes were first of the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 cars, and the nr16 Team Carsport Callaway Corvette Z06 GT3 driven by Klaus Ludwig and Uli Berberich-Martini won the Corvette class. And the first of the Maserati GranSport GT3 Light cars, Paolo Cutrera and Giuseppe Arlotti passed through all the difficulties of this first tricky race.
