2nd Position for Dimitris Deverikos at FIA GT3 in Monza.
Dimitris Deverikos took part in the second race of this year’s European Championship GT3 which was held last weekend in Monza. The Greek driver continues to be part of the Tech 9 Motorsport team which contests this year with a Lamborghini Gallardo (instead of a Porsche), a car that Dimitris finds “enjoyable” and that can definitely offer greater excitements and scores as it is in the first six contestants, even though it’s a long way off Ford GT’s performances. Deverikos competed with the 20-year-old German Christopher Haase, who is racing, at the same time, in the German Championship ADAC GT.
The first race started with a damp track and the crew of the Tech 9 started with slick tyres. The tough conditions started to loom as there were a lot of withdrawals at the reconnaissance round. At the 25th minute a crash of three cars at the chicane Ascari exit imposed the entry of the safety car at the race track.
The team of Tech 9 was fully prepared for the incident and called the car to the pits to change tyres and therefore they saved precious time. The Lamborghini Gallardo was performing amazingly on the wet and managed to bring Dimitri Deveriko and Christopher Haase at the third position, even under the pressure of Peyroles/Ruffier (Corvette), who got to the finish line just a tenth of the second after the black Gallardo. However, the judges of the race concluded that the Corvette of Charpilienne/Sound, which finished at the second position, had to be disqualified from the last score as it used a set of tyres which were intended for the second race. This brought Deverikos/Haase at the second position!
On Sunday, in the second race, the crew of Tech 9 wasn’t so lucky as in the first, as 20 minutes before the check flag and while Deverikos was at the tenth position, the electronics of the gear box let him down and made him quit.
Dimitris Deverikos is expected to take part in the third round of this year’s season of the European Championship FIA GT3, which will be held on July the 6th in Oschersleben of Germany.
